find below the step-by-step instructions for installing the V-8
conversion kit Drop the motor and transmission out the bottom
and leave struts, rotors and hubs intact Remove the battery and
bracket and put it in the trunk.
This is not
necessary but it makes for a cleaner engine bay.
Install engine

top of frame so tighten the two bolts down, then drill 4 holes
in each frame and install nuts and bolts provided.
Go inside the car
and take out front and rear seats. Take out console - unbolt
shift tower. Take out plastic door moldings over carpet.
Pull entire carpet
out - unhook brake and clutch pedal assembly and install cable
and mounting hardware.
Put template on
inside of firewall and drill new hole for new steering and
bushing and install.
Use transmission
cover as template and cut out half moon on firewall with die
grinder (you will have to trim to fit when you install engine
and transmission combination.
Now go under the
car and mount transmission mount using guide hole (drill 4
holes) when you install.
Engine and
transmission combo have someone inside of car to put strap
braces and nuts on U-bolts, tighten securely.
Move to rear of
car and drop entire rear axle and suspension from car. Remove
fuel tank, open back hatch or trunk lid and remove carpet.
Using floor pan
and template (provided) take a grinder and cutout spare tire
well, (Make sure to stay inside frame on both sides).
Go under car and
take lower control arm brackets and put over frame stub in guide
hole, drill 2 vertical holes and bolt in with band strap on
inside, then drill 3 holes and bolt in each side bracket to
hole.
Upper control arms
just bolt in stock location. One more bracket to put bolt in
with stock bolts, then drill horizontal holes and finish mount.
Now go back to the
front of car and pull off plastic cover from radiator upper
bracket (6 bolts), lift out radiator, take grill out. Go below
the car and remove mower radiator bracket.
Rear tab in front
hole then drill 2 holes to complete. Install engine and
transmission as a unit from the top. Now mount cradle and motor
mounts, jack up transmission and secure mount.
Install
crossmember with rack, hook up steering. Install rear end. In
rear wheel well where rear struts used to be is a bracket spot
welded to body.
Grind off lip to
smooth body, this will give another inch of tire width. Measure
drive line length CAREFULLY and have one cut. Install. |
